Join us for the dedication of Courage the horse on the library campus!
Courage was commissioned by Pioneer Playhouse to coincide with their Kentucky Voices production, "That Book Woman." Adapted from Heather Henson's best-selling children's book by the same name, the play tells the story of Kentucky's pack horse librarians who worked to deliver books to families in rural Appalachia in the 1930s.
Artist Brandon Long's sculpture also traces the history of the pack horse program, which was a project of the federal government's Depression-era Works Progress Administration.
