Gallery Closing Reception: Plein Air Artists of Central KY

Plein Air Artists of Central Kentucky, or PAACK, is a regional art group that provides the opportunity to create art outdoors, or “en plein air.” This is French for “in the open air.”  Unlike the indoor studio setting, creating art outdoors can incorporate natural light and weather into the artwork. Today’s plein air artists are following the footsteps of famous artists from the 1800’s like Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargant, and so many others.

There are numerous plein air art groups around the world and across the United States. In Kentucky, groups are located in Lexington, Louisville, northern Kentucky, Somerset, and here in Danville. While some plein air art groups have “painters” in their name, our group's name has “artists” to include other mediums for creating plein air art. Some PAACK artists also use fiber art, collage, and pen & ink as preferred mediums. Since PAACK is a regional art group, locations beyond Danville have included Burgin, Casey County, Forkland, Gravel Switch, Harrodsburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lexington, Louisville, Midway, Perryville, Salvisa, Somerset, and Springfield.

PAACK's outdoor "Art Outs" take place during the warmer months from April through October. And winter "Art Ins" take place during the colder months from January through March. PAACK first began in 2014, with just eight artists. It has grown to almost 150 since that time!

PAACK is looking for artists who will participate in our group during scheduled PAACK activities (usually on Mondays). There are no annual fees. Other benefits include making new artist friends, and lots of encouragement, motivation, and inspiration for creating art! If you are interested in joining PAACK or have additional questions, please contact Joe Forgacs at joeforgacs@roadrunner.com.
