Italian Cream Cake

Ingredients & Measurements: 
- 1 stick butter
 - 1/2 cup shortening
 - 2 cups sugar
 - 5 egg yolks
 - 1 cup buttermilk
 - 5 beaten egg whites
 - 2 cups flour
 - 1 tsp baking soda
 - 1 tsp vanilla extract
 - 1 cup shredded coconut
 - 1 cup chopped walnuts
 - 3/4 tsp salt
 
Instructions: 
- cream butter and shortening
 - add sugar and yolks
 - combine flour soda and salt and add to shortening mixture
 - add buttermilk and vanilla
 - stir in coconut ans nuts
 - fold in egg whites
 - bake at 350 F until tester comes out cleanly.
 
Icing
- beat together 8 oz cream cheese, 1 stick butter, 1 box powdered sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla
 
Additional Notes: 
  the recipe calls for a 'box' of powdered sugar. We assume this to mean 1 lbs but we cannot be sure.
